SURREY SKYTRAIN CONDOS

History of the City

1800’s

Langley was among the first places in British Columbia that European settlers arrived. The Colony of British Columbia was incorporated in 1858 at Fort Langley. Formerly an HBC (Hudson’s Bay Company) post from 1827 that has been now restored. Langley was not incorporated as a district municipality until 1873. Since then, the Township of Langley has divided into several urban areas. These areas include; Aldergrove, Brookswood, Fort Langley, Murrayville, Walnut Grove, and Willoughby.

1900’s

The 20th century brought advancement to Langley. Transportation changed the rural area to a much more urban and commercial core. The BC Electric Railway was added in 1910 making it easier to communicate with other districts. In 1920 the Fraser highway made major road improvements and in 1937 the Pattullo Bridge opened an exceptional crossing to the Vancouver area. Unfortunately even with so many steps forward there were many natural and artificial barriers that prevented Langley from following a tidy grid.

With so much progress being made, the township made some difficult decisions in order to accommodate the economic boom in the area. The top priorities were safety, infrastructure, and health. In order to make the city safer, street lights were added throughout several major routes. Finally in 1955 the City of Langley became a separate municipality and if often referred to as “Langley City” up to this day. The City of Langley is surrounded by the township, but politically are considered a separate entity.

In addition to all the steps taken to better the conditions for residents, the arrival of the Trans-Canada Highway happened in the 1960’s. The Fraser Highway was part of this network until 1964. Therefore, the creation of this route attracted many businesses as they were all keen to be located on this new route. The downtown core of Langley which was located on Old Yale Road, now named Fraser Highway. The economy was largely based on agriculture with Langley city as the trade and service center. This remains to the present day.

Present Day

The Surrey-Langley SkyTrain Line Extension is currently underway as they work to bring the convenience of rapid transit to this noteworthy neighborhood. This will improve thousands of residents commute time, as well as bring more LANGLEY SKYTRAIN CONDOS to the area. Moreover, Langley is home to many Translink bus routes as well as six community shuttle routes. As a result accessibility will only improve in the coming years with all the new developments that are currently in the works.

History of the City

1800’s

Coquitlam was a but of a late bloomer when it came to economic growth. Located between the North Bank of the Fraser River between Burnaby and New Westminster, it’s original inhabitants were the Coast Salish and Kwikwetlem people. The city’s name came from the word Kwikwetlem which actually referred to the salmon that travelled up the Coqutlam river to spawn in Coquitlam Lake. The name translates as “Small Red Salmon.”

In 1808 Simon Fraser passed through the region, but European settlements did not take place until the 1860’s.  The area was full of life with a stable supply of fishing and resources to gather. The Fraser River made trade possible. For instance, one of the common trade items was baskets. There was little growth in the area during the 1860’s – late 1880’s.

Better times were on the horizon when in 1889 McLaren Mills (later known as Fraser Mills) opened its doors. It was built with the most advanced technology and it was the largest number mill operation of it’s kind. This brought laborer’s to the area and began to increase the population. This was the first of several economic booms for the region. Meanwhile, in 1981 Coquitlam was incorporated as a district municipality.

1900’s

The 1900’s definitely changed the face of Coquitlam. Port Coquitlam and Fraser Mills had become divided politically and made the decision to form separate communities in 1913. The city’s continued to develop and grow, but after World War II Coquitlam felt a surge in the population and city structure. Coquitlam and Fraser Mills actually joined together which created a larger industrial base. Further to that, Lougheed Highway opened in 1953 increasing progress and popularity to the city.

The economy expanded in 1979 when Coquitlam Centre opened to the public. In addition, the 1980’s promoted more growth when additional opportunities in Trades Work began appearing across the city. This brought in many middle class families to the region and population increased again.

Finally in 1992, over 100 years after being incorporated as a district municipality, Coquitlam was incorporated as a city.

2000’s

Coquitlam is now the sixth largest city in British Columbia. The mill is no longer open, and the land has been rezoned into a residential area. However, to this day Coquitlam remains primarily residential, but contains some large industries within its boundaries. For example, Sand & Gravel producers, and Concrete & Asphalt manufacturers. Coquitlam Town Centre has become the centerpiece for Civic, Cultural, and Educational Services in the city. There have also been many advancements in public transportation and accessibility to the area including busses and SkyTrain Lines this bringing COQUITLAM SKYTRAIN CONDOS to the area.

Coquitlam may not have had the same start as many other cities in the Lower Mainland, but it has come a long way since its original settlements.

There is even an Annual Rose Show that people travel to participate in all from around the world. With such a wide range of outdoor space there are also several golfing locations.

On the other hand, the territory has many rivers, lakes, and fishing opportunities. Some of which are just steps away from the SkyTrain.

You will never tire of the outdoor activities Coquitlam can bring to your life. With quiet getaways, or full family adventures, there will always be something new to try.

Culture

Coquitlam culture centers around art, heritage, and recreational programming. For a list of art organizations click here. One of the biggest locations for culture and creativity in the city is at the Evergreen Cultural Centre. With theatrical entertainment, the Art Gallery, and educational programming this facility is an essential part of keeping the community together.

Coquitlam is also a big supporter of Festivals and Special Events. As a result, block parties, culture days, lights at Lafarge, and Summer Concerts are only a handful of events residents are welcome to take part in. Bringing families and communities together has become an abnormality in some districts. Meanwhile, Coquitlam continues to withhold strong values towards community partnerships.

Most importantly Coquitlam is the third largest school district in British Columbia. There are 45 elementary schools, 14 middle schools, and 11 secondary schools in the district. With this, the youth of tomorrow will have educational advantages as the Coquitlam Schools district also has one of the highest graduation rates in the Province.

Three Reasons Why Buying Near a SkyTrain Station is a Smart Move

1. Convenience

As we move towards a greener future, owning a car is becoming less and less necessary. We are seeing more and more people trade in their high insurance costs and lease payments for car share and a Translink Pass. For those who are willing to give up their car, the trade-off is usually that they want to be in close vicinity to the SkyTrain Station.

2. Resale & Rental Rates

Homes, Condos, and Presale Condos that are close to the SkyTrain station rent for more and sell for more, and rent quicker and sell quicker.

3. Supply vs. Demand

SkyTrain-Friendly Real Estate holds its value. As prices continue to increase, SkyTrain hubs become more and more desirable, and as demand builds, prices rise. Securing a piece of Real Estate in close walking distance to the SkyTrain station is a great way to mitigate risk in fluctuating markets.

History of the City

1800’s

Port Moody was first inhabited by the Coast Salish Nations people for over 9000 years. They built communities along the Southern Coast, including the Port Moody area. Eventually, Europeans settled in the area and upon landing were instructed to clear a trail from New Westminster to the Burrard Inlet. This is now the oldest road in the Lower Mainland and has been named “North Road.” The road was built in order to allow anchored ships to unload if New West was every attacked from the South, potentially by the United States. This would allow not only readily available military supplies, but soldiers to come and join the battle.

Port Moody dominated settlement with two events. First, the 1858 Gold rush in the Fraser Valley. With the help of this, and several other determining factors, Port Moody was said to have an “early moment of fame” when in 1879 they were officially named the Western Terminus to the Canadian Pacific Railway. Secondly, in 1886 Port Moody received the arrival of the first transcontinental train from Montreal. The train carried approximately 150 passengers on the 139 hour long trip.

Life was grand in Port Moody, but unfortunately it was short lived. Port Moody was on its way to becoming the biggest town in the West until the decision was made to extend the rail line to Vancouver around 1885. The city suffered and the population remain static at 250 inhabitants for nearly 20 years after losing their title from the railway.

1900’s

Things began picking up again in the 1900’s starting with the opening of a sawmill for Cedar cutting in 1905. This immediately created 125 jobs. Around the same time, some oil refineries opened their doors to allow for more employment opportunities. In 1913, Port Moody was incorporated as a City. Primarily a mill town, another large Imperial Oil Company was developed just outside the Port Moody Boundaries.

In the early 1920’s, Port Moody was still small but was steadily growing. If you were to walk around the town you would see mostly private homes with gardens. The town consisted of 5-6 general stores, 3 hotels, 2 gas stations, 1 elementary school, and 1 policeman. As a result, if there was a fire in the town all the residents were called to pitch in to extinguish it. Looking at what the city has become, it is hard to imagine it as such a small place.

World War II brought additional employment to Port Moody and after the war the town really hit its stride and began to expand geographically. Remaining the smallest of the Tri-Cities, Port Moody is bordered by Burnaby and Coquitlam. Now subject to countless advancements, Port Moody has developed into a beautiful city that was trademarked in 2004 as “The City of the Arts.”

2000’s

Port Moody is connected to other municipalities through Translink. Containing numerous bus routes is just the tip of the iceberg on public transportation in the city.  They are also a stopping point for the West Coast Express which runs from Downtown Vancouver to Mission. In 2016, the Evergreen Extension to the Millenium Line SkyTrain was also opened adding additional rapid transit services to the city. PORT MOODY SKYTRAIN CONDOS and townhomes began to impress potential buyers and the Real Estate market went wild. That is to say, this alluring city was a well-rounded all encompassing package. Moreover, the city offers Bike and Car sharing systems to decrease your carbon footprint and allow for car-free living.

Amenities

Entertainment and Shopping

Port Moody has supported its residents in creating an art-centric way of living. However, there are still several small shopping districts within the city boundaries. Port Moody encourages shopping local to give back to the economy and the people who reside nearby. Port Moody is big on festivals and host several entertaining and powerful events throughout the year. One of the most popular locations to host these events is the Inlet Theatre and Galleria.

Outdoors

This city is filled with outdoor appeal! Three of the most famous public park and beaches are Rocky Point Park, White Pine Beach, and Buntzen Lake. All three offer an exquisite visit with trails, water views, and some good old outdoor fun. On top of that, Sasamat Lake is one of the warmest lakes in Greater Vancouver and can be used for fishing or swimming. There are also some hiking trails in the area for those who love nature.

Recreation in Port Moody is full of creative and active options. With your health in mind, there are lots of gyms and yoga or fitness studios to choose from. Meanwhile, ice sports are fully taken advantage of in this family-friendly community. Art programs also take place all over the city in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings so you can let your creativity shine through in this beautiful environment.

Culture

The city of the Arts has great pride in the art and culture they display. Some of the largest events that are held in Port Moody are the Canadian Film Festival and the Festival of the Arts. These festival’s showcase art, cinema, and theatre performances. Alternatively, the Rotary Ribfest has been attracting people from all over the lower mainland for several years. Port Moody has a great reputation for hosting amusing events that are family friendly, or just a nice break from everyday life.

The holidays are not forgotten in Port Moody as the CP Holiday Train visits the community as well. Unlike most places, events activities and performances continue for hours after the initial train visit.  A long standing tradition in this area, this is just one of the examples that keeps the city a close and exciting community.

If you walk the streets of Port Moody you will be drawn into the one of a kind art displays, green space, and all around attention to detail. It may be the smallest of the Tri-cities, but it is the city with the biggest heart. With the Evergreen Extension it has become accessible and a fitting place to live with all the PORT MOODY SKYTRAIN CONDOS available.
