History of the City

1800’s

The original development of Burquitlam can be traced back to the year 1859. The construction of North road began to connect the capital (at the time,) New Westminster to Port Moody’s port facilities. The land was unused by the city of Burnaby and was able to be utilized for easier transportation. This route became essential and was used to improve wagon traffic in 1861.

1900’s and After

Burquitlam was actually a piece of land that the City of Burnaby was unable to put to good use. This area now marks the boundaries between Burnaby and Coquitlam. History of the City

1800’s

Port Moody was first inhabited by the Coast Salish Nations people for over 9000 years. They built communities along the Southern Coast, including the Port Moody area. Eventually, Europeans settled in the area and upon landing were instructed to clear a trail from New Westminster to the Burrard Inlet. This is now the oldest road in the Lower Mainland and has been named “North Road.” The road was built in order to allow anchored ships to unload if New West was every attacked from the South, potentially by the United States. This would allow not only readily available military supplies, but soldiers to come and join the battle.

Port Moody dominated settlement with two events. First, the 1858 Gold rush in the Fraser Valley. With the help of this, and several other determining factors, Port Moody was said to have an “early moment of fame” when in 1879 they were officially named the Western Terminus to the Canadian Pacific Railway. Secondly, in 1886 Port Moody received the arrival of the first transcontinental train from Montreal. The train carried approximately 150 passengers on the 139 hour long trip.

Life was grand in Port Moody, but unfortunately it was short lived. Port Moody was on its way to becoming the biggest town in the West until the decision was made to extend the rail line to Vancouver around 1885. The city suffered and the population remain static at 250 inhabitants for nearly 20 years after losing their title from the railway.

1900’s

Things began picking up again in the 1900’s starting with the opening of a sawmill for Cedar cutting in 1905. This immediately created 125 jobs. Around the same time, some oil refineries opened their doors to allow for more employment opportunities. In 1913, Port Moody was incorporated as a City. Primarily a mill town, another large Imperial Oil Company was developed just outside the Port Moody Boundaries.

In the early 1920’s, Port Moody was still small but was steadily growing. If you were to walk around the town you would see mostly private homes with gardens. The town consisted of 5-6 general stores, 3 hotels, 2 gas stations, 1 elementary school, and 1 policeman. As a result, if there was a fire in the town all the residents were called to pitch in to extinguish it. Looking at what the city has become, it is hard to imagine it as such a small place.

World War II brought additional employment to Port Moody and after the war the town really hit its stride and began to expand geographically. Remaining the smallest of the Tri-Cities, Port Moody is bordered by Burnaby and Coquitlam. Now subject to countless advancements, Port Moody has developed into a beautiful city that was trademarked in 2004 as “The City of the Arts.”

2000’s

Port Moody is connected to other municipalities through Translink. Containing numerous bus routes is just the tip of the iceberg on public transportation in the city.  They are also a stopping point for the West Coast Express which runs from Downtown Vancouver to Mission. In 2016, the Evergreen Extension to the Millenium Line SkyTrain was also opened adding additional rapid transit services to the city. PORT MOODY SKYTRAIN CONDOS and townhomes began to impress potential buyers and the Real Estate market went wild. That is to say, this alluring city was a well-rounded all encompassing package. Moreover, the city offers Bike and Car sharing systems to decrease your carbon footprint and allow for car-free living.

Amenities

Entertainment and Shopping

Port Moody has supported its residents in creating an art-centric way of living. However, there are still several small shopping districts within the city boundaries. Port Moody encourages shopping local to give back to the economy and the people who reside nearby. Port Moody is big on festivals and host several entertaining and powerful events throughout the year. One of the most popular locations to host these events is the Inlet Theatre and Galleria.

Outdoors

This city is filled with outdoor appeal! Three of the most famous public park and beaches are Rocky Point Park, White Pine Beach, and Buntzen Lake. All three offer an exquisite visit with trails, water views, and some good old outdoor fun. On top of that, Sasamat Lake is one of the warmest lakes in Greater Vancouver and can be used for fishing or swimming. There are also some hiking trails in the area for those who love nature.

Recreation in Port Moody is full of creative and active options. With your health in mind, there are lots of gyms and yoga or fitness studios to choose from. Meanwhile, ice sports are fully taken advantage of in this family-friendly community. Art programs also take place all over the city in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings so you can let your creativity shine through in this beautiful environment.

Culture

The city of the Arts has great pride in the art and culture they display. Some of the largest events that are held in Port Moody are the Canadian Film Festival and the Festival of the Arts. These festival’s showcase art, cinema, and theatre performances. Alternatively, the Rotary Ribfest has been attracting people from all over the lower mainland for several years. Port Moody has a great reputation for hosting amusing events that are family friendly, or just a nice break from everyday life.

The holidays are not forgotten in Port Moody as the CP Holiday Train visits the community as well. Unlike most places, events activities and performances continue for hours after the initial train visit.  A long standing tradition in this area, this is just one of the examples that keeps the city a close and exciting community.

If you walk the streets of Port Moody you will be drawn into the one of a kind art displays, green space, and all around attention to detail. It may be the smallest of the Tri-cities, but it is the city with the biggest heart. With the Evergreen Extension it has become accessible and a fitting place to live with all the PORT MOODY SKYTRAIN CONDOS available.

NEW WEST SKYTRAIN CONDOS

NEW WEST SKYTRAIN CONDOS

History of the City

1800’s

New Westminster holds the title as the oldest city in Western Canada. Founded in 1859, it was originally named Queensborough until it was renamed through suggestion of Queen Victoria. With this suggestion, the city was also nicknamed “The Royal City.” New West was also the original capital of British Columbia from 1859. With its location at the North bank of the Fraser River, and sitting 20km East of Vancouver, New Westminster sat in the center of the Lower Mainland. Impressively, in 1860 New Westminster was named the first incorporated City in BC. They were, and remain,  a core location for one of Western Canada’s busiest ports, a major railway junction, and the provinces largest industrial and marketing center. They also provide to other industries including food processing, distilling, brewing, shipbuilding, and oil refining.

Even with all these beneficial services, in 1868 Victoria officially became capital of BC due to easier access to Ocean Shipping. However, during the Fraser River and Cariboo Gold Rush, the city became the mainland’s merchant center and transportation hub. The Canadian Pacific Railway ran a line in 1886 through New West but were unable to complete the connection to the main line and Vancouver until 1887. There are currently 4 railways serving the city.

New Westminster has one more unique feature dating back to the 1800’s. Upon original settlement, Royal Engineers created a street network plan to which the city still conforms to up to the present day. Many cities have to reconstruct a grid in order to make modern day developments successful.

In 1898 a tragic fire broke loose and destroyed much of the Downtown Core and some residential areas. Luckily, many of the buildings that were rebuilt early in the next century still stand to this day making New West a “village of history.”

1900’s and After

The 1900’s proved that growth was just on the horizon. The first big steps to this included additional transportation being added. 1904 secured rail links to the United States via the Great Northern Way and the Fraser River Railway Bridge. Furthering this, in 1910 a link was created to the Eastern Fraser Valley via BC Electric Railway. Finally, in 1915 the railway linking Western Canada to Eastern Canada was built. Additionally, until the 1950’s the city was connected to Vancouver and other surrounding municipalities via the BC Interurban Tram. New West became one of the most accessible city’s in a reasonably short time frame.

In the 1980’s Westminster Quay was redeveloped to attract newcomers and to prepare for Expo 86′. All this effort gave new life to the city and included the addition of a large public market (The River Market,) Inn at the Quay Hotel, as well as condominiums and townhomes and a waterfront revival. Moreover, in 1986 the SkyTrain was added to this list of transportation available greatly increasing tourism in the area. There are 5 SkyTrain stations in New West; 22nd Street, New West, Columbia, Sapperton, and Braid.

The area’s unique charm has only grown in popularity over the years and the many NEW WEST SKYTRAIN CONDOS has really made an impact on the residents who live there. With convenient transportation and beautiful waterfront views, New West has truly become a idolized city.

Amenities

Entertainment and Shopping

New Westminster brings a different shopping experience to the lower mainland. Shoppers are surrounded by antique structures and quaint shops, all the while enjoying the fresh sea air. Meanwhile, there are also several shopping centers in New West including Royal City Center, and the Shops at New West which is a newly developed mall connected to the SkyTrain. Included in this is a cinema and dining options. Across the North arm of the Fraser River there is also Queensborough Landing. This is another “one-stop” shopping center for all your needs.

Outdoors

New Westminster brings dynamic outdoor experiences to you and your family. Whether you like to stroll by the Quay, or visit one of their parks, the memories you make will last a lifetime. One of the city’s most famous spots is Queens Park. It is home to the New Westminster Salmonbellies, the city’s favorite lacrosse team, and various other sporting groups as well as two theatrical venues. Above all, there is room to relax and enjoy a day with your family, or go for a walk with your canine companion in this beautiful, classic location.

The stunning Anvil Center contains the New Media Gallery and a community art gallery so residents are able to relish and participate in the contribution of art to the city. Secondly, the Anvil Center also is also known for the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame, Museum and Archives, and one of the many theatres in New West. Some of the other theatres in the city are Massey Theatre and Burr Theatre.

Most importantly New West offers great educational advantages. They have 10 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, and one very well known high school. On top of that, they accommodate several post secondary institutions such as the Justice Institute of BC, Douglas College Community Music School, and Douglas College.

New Westminster emits a quaint small town feel in a city filled with modern conveniences such as the SkyTrain. With such historic scenery this is truly a one of a kind place for individuals and families to absorb and grow in.

History of the City

Before the 1800’s

Vancouver, BC is the city that never quits. No matter the hardship, it has always been able to rise above and prosper. The history of Vancouver actually dates back thousands of years with its first inhabitants appearing after the last glacial period. Vancouver is located on a peninsula with two surrounding waterways. Because of the Burrard Inlet and Strait of Georgia, Vancouver is connected to the Pacific Ocean. Indigenous groups settled in the area over 8000 years ago and were able to survive on a salmon, fish, shellfish, sea and land mammals, plants, and berries. With such a stable supply of resources the people were able to allow larger groups and communities which were not typically found. This provided social benefits most indigenous people were unable to attain.

1800’s

In the late 1700’s the first Spanish explorer, and Captain George Vancouver came to the area. The exploration was short lived as they were sent away.  Continuing to move forward, the first permanent European settlement took place in Fort Langley in 1827. In 1859 the land was proclaimed to belong to the crown without negotiations or a treaty, and New Westminster became the first urban Center.  Vancouver really got its big start with the extension of the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) to Port Moody.

Unfortunately, just a few months after finally being incorporated as a city in 1886, a large fire blew out of control and temporarily stopped the areas growth as it devastated the city. However, in 1897 the Klondike Gold Rush returned success to Vancouver.  This created an economic boom that expanded the fish, mineral, and lumber markets.

1900’s and After

The 1900’s were a series of upward and downward swings as Vancouver began to strive for greatness. World War I in 1914, and the economic depression in 1939 severely diminished trade, declined resources, and slowed development. But somehow, in the 1920’s growth resumed and Vancouver took first place as the leading city in Western Canada. World War II actually brought back employment with Wartime Industries, and shipbuilding.  The economy continued to expand after the war as job opportunities were available. In the 1960’s the city’s core, and the West Side, began transforming as the city decided to destroy many old decaying buildings and rebuild.

In 1986, Vancouver hosted Expo 86‘. This was an international exposition devoted to transportation. With over 20 million visitors, Vancouver took a big step forward and built the SkyTrain. Expo 86′ was credited for being the catalyst for change in Vancouver as it also brought luxury hotels, Canada Place, and Science world. Thus began Vancouver’s large popularity, and the Real Estate Boom.

Moreover, in 2010 Vancouver was the host of the 2010 Winter Olympics. Vancouver took huge strides in developing the city to accommodate athletes and fans from all over the world. Since then, the city has continued to flourish and evolve into a better, more accessible place to be. Being a place of diversity, Vancouver still remains a regional business and financial center.

Amenities

Entertainment and Shopping

Vancouver’s entertainment is constantly being improved. Vancouver is home to several theatres and event centers. Some examples are; Vancouver Convention Center, Queen Elizabeth Theatre, Commodore Ballroom, and Canada Place. On top of that there are tons of entertainment options across the various districts in Vancouver. Shopping is another matter that is taken seriously. Residents have access to strip malls, and shopping centers all across the city. Pacific Center is one of the most popular shopping locations in the city. Alternatively, Broadway, Hastings, and Kingsway offer everything from small businesses, to large corporations. Many of the shopping districts are able to be reached via public transportation or SkyTrain.

Outdoors

Soak in the beautiful mountain backdrop, water surroundings, and wilderness areas in this beautiful sustainable city. Vancouver is surrounded by an abundance of outdoor spaces. With False creek being a popular route, Granville island is a great example of what makes Vancouver spectacular with its picture perfect location. Many residents also enjoy outdoor experiences like Queen Elizabeth Park, Van Dusen Gardens, Trout Lake, or one of the city’s most infamous spots, Stanley Park. Stanley Park is also where the Vancouver Aquarium is located.

If travelling up the mountains is more your style, the Capilano Suspension Bridge, or Grouse mountain is the place to be. There are even several beaches to relax and enjoy the day at as well. If you’re looking for more of a thrill, Playland Amusement Park or the PNE offer exciting fun for the whole family! As a result, Vancouver has opportunity to be outdoors in an assortment of ways.

Culture

Vancouver is built on culture and history. Gas town, Chinatown, Strathcona, and the UBC/Point Grey areas are great examples of Culture in Vancouver. Vancouver actually has developed a Culture Plan since it was discovered that this is part of what makes it such a livable city. There are also several museums that bring forward the history of the city, and the meeting, trade, and settlement that helped it grow. Some of the best museums are Britannia Mine Museum, Museum of Anthropology, Museum of Vancouver, and the Maritime Museum. Another famous stop in Vancouver is the Vancouver Art Gallery.

Meanwhile, there are plenty of prestigious schools scattered across the lower mainland. With 89 Elementary schools, and 18 Secondary schools, education is a priority. Further to this, there are two full adult learning facilities within the city. Continuing education is also easily available and attainable with colleges and universities such as Emily Carr, Langara, VCC, and UBC. Three Reasons Why Buying Near a SkyTrain Station is a Smart Move

1. Convenience

As we move towards a greener future, owning a car is becoming less and less necessary. We are seeing more and more people trade in their high insurance costs and lease payments for car share and a Translink Pass. For those who are willing to give up their car, the trade-off is usually that they want to be in close vicinity to the SkyTrain Station.

2. Resale & Rental Rates

Homes, Condos, and Presale Condos that are close to the SkyTrain station rent for more and sell for more, and rent quicker and sell quicker.

3. Supply vs. Demand

SkyTrain-Friendly Real Estate holds its value. As prices continue to increase, SkyTrain hubs become more and more desirable, and as demand builds, prices rise. Securing a piece of Real Estate in close walking distance to the SkyTrain station is a great way to mitigate risk in fluctuating markets.

SURREY SKYTRAIN CONDOS

History of the City

1800’s

Surrey was originally inhabited by the Kwantlen and Semiahmoo people for over 6000 years. Villages had been established at various points of the Fraser and Campbell River, as well as Crescent Beach. The area was rich with agriculture, and the villages mainly survived on Hunting and Fishing. They also had the added benefit of Tidal and Shoreline resources to supplement any essentials they may have needed. Using the waterways of the Campbell, Nicomeki, and Serpentine River kept the First Nations connected to the outside communities for trade and communication. This created a practical way to survive and keep kinship between people.

In the late 1800’s the area began to see newcomers. Surrey was incorporated as a municipality in 1879 and by 1880 approximately 200 people had moved to the area. At this point, logging began and by clearing areas for small farming communities the economy continued to grow.

1900’s

In the 1900’s focus changed from trades by waterway, to communication and connections becoming faster and more efficient. In 1904 the first double span bridge was built connecting Surrey to Vancouver and New West. At the time, this was the only path available by foot to cross. After that the Pattullo bridge was built in 1937. Following this, the incorporated municipality continued to expand and roads and railways were popping up all over creating more and more growth. Then, in 1960, the Port Mann Bridge was built making Surrey’s accessibility the best it had ever been.

Finally, over one hundred years after bring incorporated, Surrey officially became a City in 1993. As it remains to this day, Surrey brings together a wide variety of ethnicities. This creates unique opportunity for residents and brings great cultural advantages. Once Surrey became a city, it was divided into six town centers; North Surrey, Newton, Fleetwood, Guildford, Cloverdale, and South Surrey. Expected to surpass Vancouver for the largest city in British Columbia in the near future, Surrey continues to evolve and influence with its expansive resources. Above All, in 1990 the SkyTrain made it across the Fraser River and into Surrey. Currently, Surrey has and impressive four SkyTrain lines running through it making it one of the best places for SURREY SKYTRAIN CONDOS.

History of the City

1800’s

Burnaby is a city with a rich and distinct history. The Burnaby area was settled in the 1850’s, prior to British Columbia colonizing in 1858. As difficult as it may be to imagine now, Burnaby was once a mainly rural area with mostly Berry & Fruit farmers as the local working class. Meanwhile, one of the most definitive areas, Central Park, was used as a Naval Reserve to build British Warships.  With abundant forestry available in the 1800’s Burnaby was mostly used as a logging area. In 1891 the Central Park Interurban Tram was made to connect Vancouver and Burnaby. This began adding residents and businesses along the tram line creating the first appearance of urban areas in Burnaby. Finally, in 1892, Burnaby became incorporated.

1900’s

The 1900’s had different plans for Burnaby. Slowly, it turned into a working class suburb and the logging areas disappeared. Unfortunately, Burnaby hit a snag when they fell bankrupt during the great depression, but managed to recover after the end of World War II. Certainly in need of making up some ground, two of our most infamous schools were built. BCIT opened in 1960, and SFU in 1965. The opening of these educational facilities brought life back into Burnaby.

After that, the area was on an uphill swing. In 1986, the Expo SkyTrain line was built making Burnaby more easily accessible to the neighboring districts all the way to Surrey. This increased the population once again. Currently the Millenium SkyTrain line also runs through Burnaby connecting as far as Coquitlam. With all these transit options BURNABY SKYTRAIN CONDOS and Townhomes have taken off in popularity making it one of the most sought after communities.

Finally, after 100 years of being incorporated, Burnaby officially became a City in 1992. Named after Burnaby Lake, which is named after Robert Burnaby, it is now the third largest city in British Columbia behind Vancouver and Surrey.

Amenities

Entertainment and Shopping

As a result of it’s history, Burnaby has been able to assemble a community friendly place to reside. That is to say you are able to attain everything you need in one city providing tremendous living potential and accessible transit adds to the experience. Not only have many of the neighborhoods been developed, but Burnaby is home to Metrotown Shopping Center, one of the largest mall’s in Canada. As well as, Brentwood Town Center which is currently being transformed into The Amazing Brentwood. These two areas alone offer an abundant amount of shopping and dining possibilities as well as entertainment for the whole family. Both locations offer BURNABY SKYTRAIN CONDOS within their new developments which have become home to thousands of Burnaby residents.

Outdoors

Alternatively, Burnaby has an abundance of green spaces including some of the most popular ones in the Lower Mainland. For example, the aforementioned Central Park containing Swangard Stadium was the original home to the Vancouver 86’ers (now known as the Whitecaps.) Also located in Burnaby are Deer Lake, Burnaby Lake, and Still Creek. Most importantly these green spaces offer more than trees, they all contain beautiful bodies of water to add variety to your day. However, another popular outdoor Burnaby location is Burnaby Mountain. Enjoy hiking, biking, wildlife, and more on this beautiful mountain that is also where SFU is situated. You will find Burnaby has also developed many of their neighborhoods to incorporate parks, trees, and other green space to keep outdoor activity conveniently close to home.

Culture

Looking for Culture in this prosperous city? Burnaby contains 41 Elementary schools, and 8 large capacity Secondary schools to grow the community of young minds. On top of that, the Burnaby Public Library has recently become fine-free so you can explore the world of stories and facts without having to worry about being on time. The Burnaby Village Museum is another popular stop and it is located adjacent to Deer Lake. The museum offers some educational family fun in a beautiful spot. In addition, the Shadbolt Center for the Arts and the Michael J Fox Theatre have been holding productions and cultured entertainment events for years. Never miss an opportunity in this fun-filled city!

BURNABY SKYTRAIN CONDOS

Burnaby has become a focal point for transportation and transit. With the Expo, and Millenium SkyTrain lines running through, you can get practically anywhere you need. Equipped with several bus connections all over the city, you don’t need a car to live here. To see the SkyTrain stations available click Here.
