New UBC SkyTrain Line Extension

Broadway SkyTrain Project

The UBC SkyTrain, otherwise known as the Broadway SkyTrain project, will be a tunneled extension of the Millennium line passing underneath the Central Broadway area. This project will bring a new outlook on the transit available in the second largest employment district in the Lower Mainland. The first portion of this project will be the extension of the Millennium line from VCC Clark to Arbutus. This part of the extension will decrease travel time for thousands of Vancouver commuters every day.

The UBC SkyTrain capacity will be three times the amount of the 99 B-Line bus. Transit users will be able to go from VCC to Arbutus in just 11 minutes, which is half the time of the current bus route. The SkyTrain will run every 3-4 minutes at peak times of the day making your entire trip quick and easy from start to finish. The first extension will include 6 underground stations. Among these stations will be;

Great Northern Way SkyTrain Station, Mount Pleasant SkyTrain Station, Broadway City-Hall SkyTrain Station, Fairview VGH SkyTrain Station, South Granville SkyTrain Station, Arbutus SkyTain Station.

UBC SkyTrain Extension

In 2014 the City of Vancouver included the 2 part extension of the SkyTrain line to UBC in their vision. It was planned out so the city could complete the line to Arbutus, and then extend to UBC. As a result, the UBC SkyTrain line will be extended along the Broadway Corridor to the following stations;

MacDonald SkyTrain Station, Alma SkyTrain Station, Sasamat SkyTrain Station, Blanca SkyTrain Station, Westbrook Mall SkyTrain Station, West 16th SkyTrain Station.

Further to the first extension, this line will complete the transit system on the Broadway Corridor. Therefore, residents all over the Lower Mainland will have full access by SkyTrain to countless opportunities. The UBC SkyTrain line will improve the experience for UBC Students. Meanwhile, those working along the corridor will be able to shorten their commute time and do so comfortably.

Perks

In conclusion, the perks are endless. The UBC SkyTrain line is a much needed, and wanted project for this city. Above all, it cannot come soon enough for the thousands of people who utilize the current bus lines along Broadway. The project is predicted to begin in 2021, and the extension to Arbutus to be complete by 2025.

Three Reasons Why Buying Near a SkyTrain Station is a Smart Move:

1. Convenience

As we move towards a greener future, owning a car is becoming less and less necessary. We are seeing more and more people trade in their high insurance costs and lease payments for car share and a Translink Pass. For those who are willing to give up their car, the trade-off is usually that they want to be in close vicinity to the SkyTrain Station.

2. Resale & Rental Rates

Homes, Condos, and Presale Condos that are close to the SkyTrain station rent for more and sell for more, and rent quicker and sell quicker.

3. Supply vs. Demand

SkyTrain-Friendly Real Estate holds its value. As prices continue to increase, SkyTrain hubs become more and more desirable, and as demand builds, prices rise. Securing a piece of Real Estate in close walking distance to the SkyTrain station is a great way to mitigate risk in fluctuating markets.
